Mirroring a model 1

Is it possible to mirror a model that you have already created....for instance:

I have a model of an interior that is FWD facing on the RHS but I need it to be the exact same model FWD facing on the LHS.

My experimenting has not yielded very good results thus far...ideas, thoughts?

• If you want to GENERATE new elements based on existing ones, for instance by symmetry of the existing mesh, then use "Mesh > Reflect > Element".
• But if you wand to MODIFY an existing mesh, then you can use commands from the MODIFY menu, bases in your explanatio probably the best that fits your needs could be "MODIFY > ROTATE BY > ELEMENT". If your FE model is "geometry-based", is better you rotate the geometry and then re-mesh. Or Rotate both geometry & mesh and you are done, not any additional action needded!!.

I think rb1957's and Blas's responses are great, but I just want to point out a few quirks of reflecting elements in Femap. After I reflect elements, I typically need to merge the center-line nodes together. If you try to do that, you will find that all the reflected nodes are associated with a different coordinate system. After reflecting, I typically re-associate nodes to my desired coordinate system using Modify > Update Other > Node Definition CSYS... and Modify > Update Other > Output CSYS... After that I can merge nodes. Also, depending on the type of elements you are using, I recommend a check on the material angle of the reflected elements. And one last check... during the reflect there is a check-box that allows loads and constraints to be reflected as well. Forces tend to reflect correctly but Moments do not. Spending some time double checking your load cases is highly recommended.
