As working on equipment filing structure for a recently owned company I found few things which I am not sure:

1: Equipment files for old ones like manufactured before late 1960s have no ASME U-1A forms. On the other hand , new equipments have there U-1A Forms and also national board number on it

2: Some of the old files have U-1A forms attached but have no National Board number on it

My confusion is:
Is there any regulation which mandates to file ASME U-1A Forms with NBIC. If it is then when it was promulgated

I checked national board site and they require National Board number and manufacturer name to check the existence of U-1A Form but the dilemma is for my old equipment I don't have NB#.

If in case U-1A Form was not prepared for old equipments, do we need to Rate these in-service equipment and need to file with national board and get the NB#.

Check with the local Jurisdiction where the vessels are installed. The Jurisdiction should have information related to the vessels if they have been issued an operating certificate.

Second option is your insurance carrier that provides boiler machinery insurance for the vessels. They have or know where to obtain this information.

You may have to research the Jurisdiction requirements. While a Jurisdiction may now require registration of a pressure vessel with the National Board, at a previous time it may not have been. We have seen this with many Jurisdictions.

Repairs to unregistered vessels may still be made in accordance with and documented on NBIC forms.
