I am not a chemist so I ask for your help. We have a customer asking for transport vessels to haul Monomethylamine 50% aqueous solution. Is it corrosive to steel (ASME/ASTM SA-517)? Is SA-240-304 or 316 a better or necessary option?

Google was of little help. 49 CFR 173.315 didn't help either.

I would try contacting Eastman and asking what materials of construction they recommend.

Agree, Eastman is the authority on amines.

OTTOMH, it is a base, so CS is probably okay. If a coating is desired, phenolics would probably NOT be a wise choice.

Good Luck,
