mmBTU to CFM Conversion 2

I'm trying to fill out some AQMD paperwork to get an SVE system installed.

I need to convert 1.2 mmBTU/hr (natural gas) to SCFM. Instead of just giving me an answer or pointing me to an online converter, can you walk me through the calculation?

^^ That doesn't really help. They're basing their numbers off of conversion factors, gas meter model numbers and the specific gravity of *their* gas. Thanks for trying though.

I did try BUT,

It took a Google search, and some guessing, to figure out that mmBTU was probably meant to mean Millions of British Thermal Units , ( why not MBTU ?)

that SCFM is standard cubic feet per minute

and I still have no idea what AQMD and SVE mean, or why they might matter.

AQMD = Air Quality Management District
SVE = Soil Vapor Extraction

is my guess.

Well, here in CA, AQMD's are all over-mine is the BAAQMD (for Bay Area etc.). It gets pretty tedious typing it out all the time (lucky I figured out how to have Word autofill for me.)
Here in CA, we think the world centers on us, so everyone should know our acronyms-no need to waste virtual ink typing it all out!

I'm sure you've found the answer by now but.....

mmBTU/hr, normally written MMBH (MBH being 1000's of Btu's/hr therefore MM is 1000 x 1000 = 1,000,000 btu/hr.

The actual heating value of natural gas varies depending upon it's source (it's a natural product, in my neck of the woods it's accurately 1,028 btu/ft^3, but most people use 1,000 btu/ft^3.

You would therefore divide by the heating value of natural gas 1,000,000 x 1,000 btu/ft^3 x 60min/hr to convert from hrs to minutes.

scfm = mmbtu per hr/(1,000 x 1,000 x 1,000 x 60)
