Model as deliverable

On occasion we get a verbal request for our Caesar II models from a client for some or other reason. Mostly so that they can "verify" our work. Up to now we have always rebuffed them and told them that they were welcome to pay us a visit and then we would run through the model with them, but have not yet given out a .c2 file. Nor have such clients ever paid us a subsequent visit...

Has anybody in the past issued a .c2 file as part of agreed upon deliverables similar to issuing soft copy isometric or general arrangement drawings? If so, what did the client do with the file?

It is common practice in the UK to provide a CD of input files at the end of a project, in the final Stress Analysis Report. Besides the obvious uses to the Client for future work, supplying the input file means we do not supply reams of output since it can be regenerated. We care about our trees.

My experience has been..."if its in the contract, its in the contract"

Some clients (especially those in the nuclear power field) require the C2 models and input files for future use. I feel that this is a reasonable request considering that there my be future modifications to the piping and that they have paid for the model development.

If the contract says: Piping shall be designed in accordance with appropriate codes and standards..... and the consultant decides to use C2 (or any other method)...then IMHO.....no !

Again, this all seems to boil down to opinion

You are right, what is in the contract goes. Currently the contract with the client company as a whole does not stipulate the C2 models as deliverables. Thus the reason for turning a cold shoulder to individuals within the client company.

In my limited experience so far, I have never been contractually bound to deliver C2 models, thus my curiosity as to how commonly such request are made i.e. contractualised.
