This seems petty but is frustrating at times. When using your assembly as a componant in the drawing...the model can be several different colors in the assembly file but when the assembly is loaded as a componant in the drawing file the model colors change randomly so a block for example in the original assembly file may be blue will change to...lets say yellow when brought into the drawing.

Check to make sure that the Assembly/Drawing and the Part models are using the same CDF (Color Definition File). The CDF is part dependent and could be different.

To change a Part/Assembly/Drawing file's CDF go to...

Preferences -> Color Palette...

...and in the 'Options' section of the dialog there are several options, such as using the System Default or the Customer Default or a user selected CDF. Just make sure that you are using the same one in all of your files, and you should be good to go. BTW, if you define a CDF in Customer Defaults then every new file created will have the same CDF. However, if you're using modeling and drafting template files, you will need to manually update them as I described above so that they are consistent as well.

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

John probably nailed it as usual, but also check that the drawing file is not set to use random color display (Preferences -> Visualization -> Color Settings -> Random Color Settings). I've seen this setting cause some confusion and frustration.

Great thanks everyone, I'm not at work now but I will check out both suggestions tomorrow. Thanks again!
