Hi
I want to model a sandwich panel of 50mm depth (with two 0.5mm steel plates on each sides & 49mm foam depth) on the roof of an industrial building. In defining area section I assumed it a shell with 1mm membrance thickness & 50mm bending thickness. do you think my assumption is correct or i should enter the equivalent bending thickness of a rectangular section?
what do you suggest for stiffness modifiers?

i really appreciate helpers.

Usually those sandwich panels are not structural elements and they just cover the roof.
I think that you don't need to midel them but to transfer their weight loads to the beams and joists.

why would you want to do that?

If you have to, model it with shell elements of equivalent steel area and moment of inertia.

my own experience is, avoid plane elements as much as you can.

remember this:

a panel is two way inside the panel only. That is, if you have more panels side by side, the gap between the two panels has no stiffness. So whenever you have a gap, put a band shells of very very very low stiffness in your shell model.

hope this helps

Yes it helped me alot thank you very much.
