Modelling adhesion/water film between two surfaces

Hello,

I am currently trying to model the tip-surface behavior of an atomic force microscope. The tip and surface are initially in contact. Then the surface moves away from the tip. Because of a thin water film on the surface, the adhesion force which this water film causes has somehow to be considered, forcing the tip to follow the surface movement until the adhesion force is smaller than the spring stiffness which drags the tip upwards.

I already took a look at the cohesive behavior option in abaqus, but don't know if that's the right way to go...

Does anybody have an idea on how this problem can be solved? Any help would be apprechiated!

Kind regards,
xaero
