Hi I m doing a project of checking the structural integrity of stacker reclaimer machine . I need to model the whole structure in strand 7 software(FEA) . I have made beam elements for conveyor boom, pylon and ties. but I m trying to model the portal base and skewing platform and bucket. because these portal base, bucket wheel, skewing platform all connected plate elements. i have attached the picture of it as well .any idea of these modelling is helpful. Also if anyone has done this type of design before, any guide to calculate digging forces(AS4234 or BG60) and the way it will apply to model is also helpful.

Is the digging forces are applied like a torque arm at the centre of the bucketwheel ? if i use a rigid link from the bucketwheel centre to apply the digging force at the cutting teeth would that be correct?

thanks in advance for your replies .

Have you looked at the Strand7 web notes. There are quite a few on modelling techniques with plate elements, including combining plates and beams.
