Hi,

I am trying to model the vibration transmission through the ground between 2 concrete ground floor slabs on piles. Does anyone know how I could do this in Ansys?

Thanks in advance

There are lots of ways but you need to be just a little more specific. Some basic (by no means exhaustive) points to ponder are:

- how much time do you have? what computer resources do you have available? what input motions do you have? what does your model comprise of? does it involve contact? or any other non-linearities? which leads to... which analysis method do you need to choose? time history? linear? non-linear? frequency based? psd? what type of results/data do you need from the analysis? time-based? etc.

Drej,

i am doing a transient analysis on th model so I can apply an impulse load on one slab on piles (a road) and model the vibration travelling to the ground floor slab of a nearby building (also on piles). I have an idea of the worse case impulsive force, so just need to model the vibration travelling through the soil. I am not necessarily looking for a dimensionally accurate model of the soil, but maybe some sort of element which can link the two and simulate the losses in the ground.
I have done a very crude diagram (see attached) to give you an idea. Would be very grateful for any input.
