When looking at landing loads, the moment of inertia of a rotorcraft is important because it determines the angular acceleration around the point of contact.
Methods of determining the Moment of Inertia of fixed wing aircraft is well defined in several texts, such as Roskam and Bruhn.
The question of how to determine the Moment of Inertia of a rotorcraft has come up, but we don't have a good place to start, beyond the approaches mentioned above, which aren't very suitable.
Can anybody suggest any references that might provide a method of estimating these properties?
Just in case you're curious, we're working on a Bell 205.
