Moment Resisting Bracket

Hi All,

I am designing the moment resisting bracket for cold formed steel stud wall. I calculate the base moment and reaction and calculate the shear forces in the bolts connected to the stud (Bolt Pattern Force Distribution). and similarly used hilti profis to check the bolt capacity. My question is if I use the two bracket (as shown in the attached sketch would it be same? any cons of using 2 brackets instead of 1?
Need your thoughts.

I'm not sure why your client wants to go down this route. Option 1 makes a lot more sense to me (even though option 2 is viable).
I am not sure I would worry about the bolt spacing issue as only one bolt is actually doing the work for pullout. Both would be resisting the shear, but this is likely to be negligible.

Looks like your shear is about 38 lbs - so 19 lbs per clip (if I did my conversion correctly). Seems like it would not be hard to tighten the bolts sufficiently to prevent the "soft story" effect. How you would assure that happens is the issue. You could also consider dumping all the shear load into the compression side clip - which ain't doing much.
38lbs x 1" +/- eccentricity - i can't imagine a clip with an M10 anchor bolt could not resist this.

why do you think "And it will hard for them to cut the exact holes at the exact location in the stud" ?

Presumably they'd use the clip as a template ? Maybe you're bigger problem would be damage to the clip.
Maybe use self-tapping screws ?

You've sized #14 (1/4") bolts, and the proposal uses M10 (3/8") bolts. That seems like something (to benefit the single fastener clips).

Thanks Tomfh. Yes you are right there are numerous better options on the Bunnings.

XR250: Base shear is approximately 0.33KN ( 78 lbs). Yes agree with you.

rb1957: They should be using the template to make sure the holes are perfectly placed. But I have seen number of times, site team destroying the web of the stud while cutting the holes, hence I preferred to provide pre-punched holes (whenever possible) . Yes we are now looking for the custom bracket with self-tapping screws.
