Dear All

Is the product corrosive to carbon steel with 20% water. Also what type of material should be used for the gasket for the flange.

Thanks

The glycol is not corrosive to carbon steel;- however, the water might be corrosive, depending on its compsition, oxygen content, ph, etc...The glycol / water mix is used as coolant in the engine cooling system, but is not a rust inhibitor as many tend to believe.

glycol can degrade and produce acids in some conditions, functions of temperature..., that will give important corrosion rates on carbon steel. usually an inhibitors is addes to the glycol to prevent from corrosion. is difficult to define exactly the corrosion rate but values up to 20 mpy (0.5 mm/y) can be expected on carbon steel.
