Alewijnse and Vacon teamed up (with Shipkits BV) with essentially the same variable speed AC and DC grid layout:
ABB also finally found a customer for their DC grid:
This will soon take diesel electric systems by storm. The ability to eliminate a propulsion switchboard and phase shifting transformers to save weight and up-front cost, to more quickly put reserve diesels online, and the ability to save fuel with variable loads will all push this to the forefront.
