I am in the process of developing a motor repair program for our company for motors 35 hp and larger. I am currently developing motor repair specifications list to incorporate into the plan that i can pass on to the contractors who will do the repairs. I wanted to know what specifications i should incorporate.

My former employer researched the repair costs on common-frame 480-volt motors and found that it was not economical to have motors rewound after failure for HP <60 or so. Ditto for mechanical failures that required extensive machining.

Larger motors or odd-ball frames for specialized applications were still rewound or repaired, and bearings were changed and windings cleaned and baked out for smaller motors.
