Motor Starting Method Selection 2

I wonder which criteria i can select the type of starting method of the motor like direct on line, star/delta, soft starter, variable speed drive..
if there is any paper explain it, please share it with me...

That reminds me of the time when a very polite and proper Japanese engineer used that phrase in a meeting.
Some Canadian engineers had been helping him with his English.
They chuckled for days.
