Hi,

I have a staircase with a supporting wall at the edge of the landing.

This supporting wall needs to shift 400mm to give room. A method has to be found that least interferes with the stair case usage.
Does building a wall and filling the last joint with mortar to the soffit of the stair landing work? Any other way other than running a steel member below the stair landing?

Why not just design the landing to span over the wall as a short cantilever?

@MotorCity,
The staircase already exists, and yes it can cantilever, my question is what is the cleanest method of introducing that new line of support.

Building a wall in the new location and grouting it to bear seems like a viable solution. If you wanted to do it with steel, maybe 2 posts with a beam between them to support the landing. Depends on the function and need for the wall. Is it part of a fire rated enclosure? Does it support anything else?
