Moving From I-dears to NX/Teamcenter 3

Hi,
I am interested to hear if there are any companies in Sweden or europe that have move from I-deas to NX/teamcenter and can provide a site visit for 3 to 5 people. I am asking on behalf of a small to medium sized company which build plant machine attachments. We are interested to hear how the transition was carried out and how teamcenter works in the real world.
It would be much appreciated if anyone could give an hands on insight.

Are you dealing with Siemens PLM directly or through a distributor/partner? In either case, you should make a request like this directly with the people whom you're working with. They should be able to help you set something up.

Hi,

We are currently transitioning from I-Deas to NX/TC and are based in Sweden. Thus our NX and TC configurations are not finalized yet, but I could answer questions about the early implementation phase.

How far have you come with the transitioning from I-Deas to NX/TC. It would be good to hear what stage you are at and where you have hit problems? we are just tiding up files and planning at the moment. So have you any advice? Where in Sweden are you based?

We are based in northern Sweden and currently have a “test” environment up and running, which was first used for TC familiarization and then development (still ongoing) of our own datamodel. Now it is used for running real projects of increasing complexity, after each project we try to document what worked well and what did not and develop methodology and or software changes that fix the problems.

An early decision on our part was not to migrate all of our I-Deas TDM data to TC. Instead we identified parts and assemblies that were often reused and developed new NX versions of them for use with the NX reuse library. Now if we need and assembly and or part from I-Deas we use the .xpk format and use the part as is, or synchronus tools if there is for small changes.

Myself and a work colleague are attending the seminar on the 31st hope to meet you there I will email you my details so you can maybe find us. Just at this point in time any tips on the best way of getting up and running? How to manage data transfer? Has anyone used a batch file to do this or is it just a case of going over each file one at a time and seeing what you get? Is it better to remodel main parts? What problems have been found when moving over to TC.
I have lots of questions like this just trying to do as much home work as possible as I have change an office CAD system before (AC to MS) and it’s not just a case of load the new software she’ll be right. But it is very possible if done it the right way.

Hi Trevor,
I have not personally been part of the data migration step, my role has been to help a few companies that already had migrated their data in how to use NX, use the migrated parts, repair migrated parts, Best practices, NX system admin etc etc.
In my perception the quality of the migrated data is now impressive, the number of migrated parts that needs remodeling is minimal. (IF it was modeled in a reasonable way in I-deas... Poor data in = ...)
There are always some specific features that will fail due to that I-deas did allow some options that no other system did or does. ( non-manifold bodies for example, i know of no other system that handles this in the same manner.)
I know the person to discuss the data migration step with. Hopefully he will be present next Thursday.
