Moving from NX2 to NX3 1

We're looking at moving from NX2 to NX3 soon. What advice can you give me, or what pitfalls should I look out for? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Customer defaults have been changed....no more ugii_english.def or ugii_metric.def files. The plotting interface is new, so read ALL the plotting documentation you can get before you dig in & try to install & set it up blindly. If you're using a dongle, the Sentinel driver/setup is no longer automatically installed with FlexLM. You will have to install Flex then navigate to the Sentinel directory & execute the .msi file there.

Those are the biggest things I can think of....the other pitfalls are nothing new...UGS still not listening to the users. If you have an up to date maintenance agreement, you can log into GTAC's support site & read the What's New guides & PR fixes for specific issues that NX3 may be having.

If there is no "English.def" files, how are the setting stored? Registry? We will be getting NX4 installed in the next few months and I need to get ready, especially if that's changing.

Is this a similar definition file or what? How are the defaults handled? We have a bunch of users and I'd like to know how to ensure we're all using the same defaults.

It's a similar file, or rather files. One for "user", one for "group", and one for "world".

Rob Cohon has a set of files, and instructions, for setting up a common set of defaults. You can get it via the UGS newsgroups.

Just read the NX3 documentation for details, it's outlined there quite thoroughly or call GTAC if you prefer. You can import settings from your old english/metric.def files as well for those that are not familiar with the new customer defaults.

The customer defaults are stored in a .dpv file, which resides in the appropriately defined directory(ies) for User, Group & Site level defaults. Each level has its own .dpv file. It's also possible to lock those settings (at any level) in case they are not supposed to be changed as well as being able to export the settings to Excel for easy viewing.

Well that definitely sounds better than the current setup in NX2. Thanks for the info, looks like I need to push IT to get NX4 on our computers for configuring purposes before they just decide to "give" it to everyone.
