Hi,

We are in the process of re aligning all the parts w.r.t to vehicle co ordinate system.i want to know if it is possible to move the axis system of the part ( both location and orientation) to the desired location on the part. so that when it is called inside the vehile it will be exactly aligned with the vcs and the vehicle. i have tried it but in vain. pl suggest me if any one has done this before. Thanks in Advance.

P.S: i want to move the origin and the orientation of the existing parts to the desired location on the part in CATIAV5R21.

if you want to move all parts to the origin of the assembly, and not move the axis inside the part, duplicate your vehicle product, remove all parts from assembly then insert all parts, by default part come at product origin.

geometry will also follow part moves... it might be messy

usually we have parts positioned in assembly with part axis in nice position wrt geometry, mainly for replacement so you can replace one part with another (and not worry about position) and geometry could fit right in.

Hi itsmyjob,

Thanks for your inputs. But the case here is different. we need to move the axis system of the existing parts available to the desired location. Please let me know if this is possible by any means. Thanks in advance.

you can move the axis system but you will impact geometry if it is link with the axis.

a simple script could do the job.

script should go through product structure, find all part, get its first axis at the origin to the part and move it to global origin.

you will move the axis of the part, not the origin of the part.

Hi,
I think you go it wrong.we need to move the axis system of the part within the part. For example if the axis system ( i.e the origin ) of the Engine is located elsewhere.we need to bring it to the center of flywheel i.e within the part.Hope it is clear now.

yep thats what the script could do...

the axis system of the part is not the origin of the part. the origin of the part is fix and you cant move it. Just like the 3 main planes.
