I am investigating a means of scanning a brain into a 3D format. We need a 3D model of a specific brain specimen in a lab.
The most useful format to me would be an IGES file. I can get this data using a 3D laser scanner. Unfortunately, this is expensive and our resources are limited.
We do, however, have access to MRI equipment. I have no experience working with this type of machinery (this whole project is new ground, really). So I'd like to ask some questions about the type of data that this machine can provide me with.
My question is this: Can I have MRI output data in the form of surfaces? If so, what data format is this? (i.e., IGES, VRML, STL, etc)... Can it output data as a point cloud or section curves?
This data needs to be interpreted by 3D CAD software, in particular, Pro/Engineer.
