Help! I have attached my file. Can someone tell me why the total resources cost + total fixed costs do not equal to the total cost calculated (i.e. the total cost shown on the Gantt view)? There is always a difference of $3,635.88, but I can't tell where this could be coming from. I tried deleteing all my fixed costs and recalculated and the same difference of $3,635.88 shows up (checked by manually calculating). If someone can have a quick look that would be great! Hopefully the answer to my question isn't something trivial... sigh.
Thanks!

Your sheet is complicated by the fact that your rates change at the beginning of next year and the costs are prorated by MP. However, how hours are divied up is not always very clear in MP.

I can't even get your top level numbers to add up: 754,057.18 (salary) + 6,516,900.00 (matl) + $413,000.00 (fixed) = $7,683,957.18, but the total cost is supposed to be $8,590,557.99

I see $739,022.11 based on "Work" Group Resources and $6,516,900 based on the "Material" Group Resources. The fixed cost I get by manually summing up is $1,331,000.

The total cost from adding up the 3 above is $8,586,922.11. The total cost the Gantt View shows is $8,590,557.99, which is $3635.88 more than the manually calculated cost of $8,586,922.11.

This difference comes from the Civil Designer, Reviewer - Water Engineer, or Senior Project Engineer rate of $100.30/hr x 36.25 hrs regular work week = $,635.88.

It must have been a bug. I had to delete the hours of one task for the Civil Designer and manually input the same number of hours... problem was solved... the total cost calculated by MS Project matched. A bug problem was the last thing I could think of...

You commented about the bunch of resources without hourly rate... this is because either the resource does not charge to the project or because the inherent hourly rate is incorporated to the material costs. I.e. a contractor charges a set rate for supply and installation of a pipeline, which includes time for his crew and profit.

Thanks for spending time to look at the file IRstuff.
