Hi,

I have been using the Multi and fast-instantation to duplicate standard parts. This works fine in the x, y and z direction.
I was wondering if there is a way to use this method axially, i.e. duplicating bolts and nuts around a shaft interface.

Thanks
Steve

You can use ASD Re-use pattern. I have attached an example in R20. Basically in your shaft part you need to create some geometry to constrain to. I used a point and a line, which I published. This gives me the ability to create assembly constraints to the would be nut/bolt configuration, which I will use the axis of the bolt and a plane (both published). The 3 constraints were coincidence Shaft point to bolt plane, coincidence shaft line to bolt axis and angle (perpendicular) shaft line to bolt plane. The constraints will control the correct orientation of the bolt around the shaft.

Derek

Why is the third constraint, (perpendicular)shaft line to bolt plane, necessary? Isn't the angle of the axis defined by the shaft line to bolt axis coincidence?

That is true, but I used it to control the direction of the screw. The above example only has 1 degree of constraint freedom and that is rotation around the axis. I could have oriented the screw with the compass and left it at that.
