Hi,
I need to use V5 GSD to create a surface using a curve and a point. It is like a cone, but more random. In V4, you can use surf1-curve to do this, but I can't find a V5 function. The multi-section surface won't let me pick a point.

Yes, you can use points! At lease if the point is at the end of the surface. (I saw this recently in one of the CATIA magazines)

First, make sure the guide curves pass through the end point.

Then, select the section curves and ignore the end point. Go to the Relimitation tab and turn off the RELIMIT ON END SECTION option

I am lofting half of a distorted cone. At one end is half of the end curve; at the other end is a point. For guide curves, I made lines from either end of the end curve to the point.
Are you saying that I should make a short line emanating from the point, and use that as one of my definition curves?
And then use the Relimitation tab to make V5 think that I don't want to use the short line?
If so, it didn't work.

I am trying to figure how to post an image in these responses.

Hmmm - I'm not sure if this method will work since you only have 1 section curve. No - you don't need a short line at the point end - you just need to have the two guide curves (lines) meet at the point.

here's instructions:

Thanks, Jackk,
It may not work because I only have one section other than the point, but this should give me ideas for other ways to attack it.

Boffin: I just tried to make your cone from a half-circle, and two intersecting guide lines - it didn't work with my directions. I guess you need more than 1 section curve when you use the multi-section surface

But I was able to make your surface by using a Swept surface. I used an explicit type, 'with two guide curves' using the half-circle for the profile, and the two lines for the guide curves.

From a "good loft" standpoint, it would be better to trim it to that point rather than have the surface mathematically end there.

Three-sided surfaces are generally a no-no, and this is no exception.

Agreed, Configurator. For that wonderful chunk of wisdom, I give you a star.
