I don't know where to start. This is an existing wood-framed porch that was attached via ledger to the host building and also to a building on the side that was recently demolished. The emergency demo crew left the ~40ft tall masonry wall to remain because it is attached to the porch. I ordered the masonry wall to be demolished but now I must provide bracing for the porch.
Issues:
if I add bracing to this wood porch, do I take liability for this porch and the existing construction?
existing wood is painted black - I cannot tell if it is PT
existing 6x6 posts are not continuous from base to roof. The post base is attached at each level with(what looks to be a) Simpson BC60 post base, which was incorrectly installed.
there appears to be no splicing connection between the columns. on the second level, there isn't even blocking between the bottom of the post and the top of the column below.
Here is what I have so far. I don't know how to resolve the issue at the post base without taking the existing structure apart.
