Huh. Sometimes something that should be simple is not necessarily so.
Can anyone tell me what happens to a clamping force when more than one sheet of plastic is clamped in the vertical plane?
Clamping force for one sheet is 500N/.3=1667N, but for multiple sheets is it still the same? Having a brain fart.
Can someone clear the fog.

Make that 50N per sheet, clamping force single sheet is 167N
 
Consider a horizontal plate, "clamped" to a table by placing a 167 N weight on it.

Add a second, a third, etc. plate between the table and the first plate.

Does the weight change?

While the clamp force won't change, the friction between the sheets of plastic may not be the same as between the plastic and the outer clamp surface. If there is air captured the friction can be remarkably reduced. But the clamp load won't differ.

Imagine a single block and the clamping force is 167N as you say,that works fine between the clamp faces, now replace that with another block, but this block is twice the weight of the single block and the clamping force stays the same, so will the clamp still hold the block or will the block slide?😁👍
