Mystery File - Inventor 2011 Pro

Hi All,

For some unknown reason in some of my assemblies I'm getting the following file - 990-20.ipt - that cannot be found. If I skip the file I get an Unresolved Assembly. I have done a complete search of every component in the assembly and cannot see it, I've even done a file search through Windows Explorer - the file does not exist.

Can anyone assist with this please.

Inventor has already told you it is unresolved. How could you see it if Inventor can't "see it"?

I am not even sure what you mean.
Is there a grayed out node for the part in the assembly component browser?
Delete the node.

In the object browser window you should find that missing part and it properties. Also there you able to delete it.

I can't understand it, all my parts begin with 2 or 3 letters followed by numbers. I was hoping that it was some sort of error code, no matter I will re-do the assembly piece by piece and see if I can track it down that way.

It is possible that you have the third parties derived part or subassembly unit somewhere. In this case might be derive links of that part still unbroken and shown as unresolved.
At the first you have to find the assembly unit or derived part that uses your missing file. This you can make when opening assembly and prompted to skip missing file. On that window somewhere you will see the path and name of the subassembly or derived part.

It gets even stranger, I've just spent the best part of three days compiling all the components and re-doing the assembly in exactly the same way as the original with not one error or unresolved issue. I then did a list of all the parts and checked it off one by one - nothing.

Maybe Inventor is Inventing things to try me out!!
