N9 (6.3 um) roughness requirement

Good morning!

I just want to confirm the roughness requirement of N9 or Ra=6.3um

In our case, customer required N9 in their customer drawing.
And this particular product has a plating process in it.

Now, what i want to confirm is to where will this N9 be considered? (1) is it in the raw material that it should have N9 roughness? or (2) is it in the finish plated product that requires the N9 roughness?

Where will the roughness test be conducted? raw material stage? or finished product?

I would recommend contacting your customer directly for those answers. They may indeed have some specific things in mind. Where I work, requirements apply to the finished item in the majority of cases but not all of them.

Your customer should be your first point of contact regarding requirement interpretation or clarification.
