For buried sour gas pipeline material selection, I was using NACE MR0175, which allows the use of SS 304, with some restrictions. However, I was told that that this Standards is only for refinery/plant piping(above ground), and that another NACE standard is written specifically for buried pipelines, and according to that standard, stainless steel would not be allowed for sour gas pipelines(NACE Region 3). Can someone please confirm if this is true, and if so, what is the applicable standard for buried sour gas pipelines? Thanks.

Gents and Girls,
I found the answer. MR 0175 applies to buried pipelines and oii/gas surface facilities, whereas MR0103 applies to refinery piping. The latter is somewhat relaxed standard than MR 0175.
