In Preferences Visualization, under View Decorations, you can turn on and off the Object Names.

We need to turn this on to see all of the weld spot numbers in our files. However, this also turns on the names of the product too, which only gets in the way. Can one turn the names on for only specific files somehow?

I noticed there is a setting in the dropdown for "Object Display Specific" but I cant figure out how that works or what it does.

I do not think you will be able to do what you want, but I am going to keep looking.

Thanks Jerry. By chance do you know what "Object Display Specific" does? It sounds like it would be what I want. To choose which objects get the name turned on.

When I select that option, and I go to Edit Object Display, components I select will have a check box available for display name. But when I select them, nothing seems to happen. Either this does something I dont understand, or it doesnt work right. lol My guess is I just dont understand it. lol

No, I do not know what that means.
What I was hoping to do is change the font size of the things that you do not want to see to very tiny, and the font size of the thing you want to see change to a little larger, but I do not see a way to do that.

For anyone interested, I have figured out how to do this.

Under MENU > PREFERENCE > VISUALIZATION > VIEW > DECORATIONS
In the NAMES and BORDERS section, change the dropdown for "Show Object Names" to "OBJECT DISPLAY SPECIFIC"
Click OK

In modeling, you then need to go to EDIT OBJECT DISPLAY and use the filter to select POINTS, SOLID BODIES or whatever it is you need. Once you select these objects and hit ok, in the new window you will check the box for "DISPLAY OBJECT NAME"

** This box is only available if "OBJECT DISPLAY SPECIFIC" is selected in Preferences Visualization (as described above).

This doesnt seem to work for components, but for objects like solid bodies and points.

For example if you work with weld spot files and datum files as we do in automotive work, all of our weld spots are points with ID names attached to them. So with this setting to get their names to show up, you have to select the individual points and not the file they are a part of.

Jerry; Thanks for your time. I do appreciate it. :)
