Hi all,

what do you call something like this:
after installation and piping of equipments, you close some valves so that you have a closed system with some equipments connected.
Then from the highest point of the system you apply a certain pressure to see if the welding etc are tight.

Do you call it:
- system pressure test
- hydrostatic pressure test
- hydrostatic pressure test system
or something else?
If you say "hydrostatic pressure test", do you mean a pressure test for an equipment or for a whole sub system?

Thank you in advance.

Under B31.3, you call it a leak test. The test you performed did not to a "stress" test that you would perform under B31.8 unless the piping was subjected to 95+% of Yield.

Martin...

It all depends on the rules of construction that you are following.

You could call it a "hydrostatic pressure test of the piping system" if the system is being built to ASME B31.1/B31.3 or several other codes. You should investigate the specific test requirements contained within the code of construction.

Or you could call it simply a "leak check" if the test pressure is less than the max normal operating pressure.

Or you could call it a "waste of time" if there are no test records kept, there is no test proceedure developed or followed and if there is no understanding of the design code to be followed.......

My opinion only...

Yes the system is built acc. to div. ASME codes, the equipments to ASME VIII Div 1, the HXs to TEMA Cl.B, etc.

The pressure test is not only for the piping system, but also for the equipments with this pressure:
design pressure x 1.3 x material factor

Do you call it "hydrostatic pressure test system"?
