Dear All,

I am working on a nano-indentation problem with analytically rigid indentor and a 2-D deformable specimen. We have 9 noded plain strain elements from UEL and having a uniform mesh. The analysis halts after relatively small no. of increments with one or two elements just below the point of contact of indentor distorting excessively. The error msg shown is 'fixed time increment is too large' which is a convergence error.
This is a list of what I have already tried:

a) Played with the step time parameters. reduced initial increment time, varied maximum and minimum time increment
b) used different values of time incrementation controls parameters
c) used contact controls like stabalize and analysis=discontinuous which leads to introduction of discontinuities with 'u' appearing after some incrementations in sta file
d) used biased meshing
e) used damping effects with default values

None of the above had led to successful analysis run. The analysis will run initially and then one increment will have multiple iterations and finally 'analysis has not been completed' is shown.
Please help me with possible solution to this problem
Thanking you in anticipation
