To All,

We are going to fabricate a ASME section VIII div 2 vessel and we are required to have an ASME U Stamp.
We are already on the process of getting the certification. My question is do we need to register to the National Board or secure permit from them?

Thanks in advance

You should register the vessel with the National Board after the vessel has been completed. I would check with the regulatory body or Jurisdiction where the vessel will be installed for permits or other requirements.

It sounds as though your shop is not yet certified but you're in the process of obtaining certification. The requirement for registration of vessels with The National Board is customer driven* but even if this one doesn't require it, you would be well advised to obtain National Board authorization to register vessels because many customers insist on it. If you haven't had your review yet discuss this with your AI agency. They can assist you in making application to the National Board. You may be able to include it in your upcoming review.
* While Div 2 doesn't require NB registration, it does simplify your requirements as a fabricator. See Annex 2.C

Thanks Guys, By the way the vessel will be built here in Thailand and shipped to Belgium.

Cheers

Big advantage of NBR is that 20 or 30 yrs from now, when the original owner and the fabricator have lost or destroyed their records the NB will still have the U forms. So whoever owns the vessel at that time can learn someting about it.

Regards,

Mike
