national board registration of pressure vessels

This is my first writing in the forum,
my question is related to new pressure vessel and national board.
Here is the deal, new vessels, manufactured outside the US (not a U stamp holder), will be installed in a state that require permit-to-install.
The permit include national board registration.
Any ideas or experience with this type of situation?

Yes, most Jurisdictions in the US require two things; vessels built to ASME B&PV Code and National Board registration. You need both. For vessels built outside of the US with no ASME Certification you can either try to go the route of s State Special (non-ASME Code vessel) or you don't install the vessel.

Around the 80's, a fired pressure vessel fabricated in France was to be sold to a client in my State. French equivalent manufacturer's data sheet and related worksheets showing all calculations were interpreted and reviewed. The evaluation revealed the information to be comparable to ASME pressure vessel code. The results of this review were sent to the State Boiler and Pressure Vessel Board. The results were accepted by our State and a state boiler inspection number was issued as is normally done for any new installlation.

Must have been a state special. The Boiler Board I am on in our State has no provision for non-ASME vessels unless they are given state special numbers.

As it turns out our state does have a "Special Design" provision allowing the installation upon approval by a state chief inspector.
