HI All.

I got some problem here.
Let say if my diesel consumption to produce 1 ton of steel is 20L/Ton.
I wonder how many natural gas is needed to get the same combustion value as diesel consumption 20L/Ton.

Do I need to calculate based on calorific value for both fuel or any other method..

Any feedback is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks for the link Pierre.
actually the real problem for me is to make the calculation with two diff type of particles - liquid and gas
The unit of calorific value of diesel vs natural gas quite confusing.

Anyhow, Can you enlighten me with the calculation? 20L diesel = ? Sm3 Natural gas. prefer in SI unit

Thanks !

Interestingly they look quite similar in may respects, but as you say different units.

A very rapid google say 1 litre diesel is about 37 MJ

coincidentally, the Cv of Natural gas is about 37MJ/sm3

SO exchange cubic metres of gas for litres and you're there.

Actually in gas, many seem to work in energy, so this would be 37MJ x 20 = 740MJ or if you divide by 3.6MJ, 20.5 kWh.

I do find it difficult to know why you're using diesel to produce steel though.

Don't think I've got the units wrong unless you have.
