I have the span figured and by calculating for all of thte various loads on the cable have come to the conclusion that the span is too long for conventional methods for the size of cable I am dealing with.

Catenary support was suggested, but I can't seem to find anything that tells how to determine the placement of the individual supports along the span between the two support strands.

Have you looked at ADSS? You can do spans upto about 450m with ADSS. What is the span length in question?

Span is approximately 550 ft.

I am going to show my ignorance here and ask, what is ADSS?

I am employed by AT&T as what they call a Manager of OSP Planning and Engineering Design. I have no technical Engineering training and only about 5 years of experience in the position I'm currently working.

I appreciate your response.

ADSS stands for All Dielectric Self Supporting. Try Googling it. I'm sure you'll get a good number of hits.

I didn't know what ADSS was either (I thought it was some kind of learning disability);-). A handy website can find most acronyms. The one that makes sense is All-Dielectric Self-Supporting (cable).

Thanks, I did Google it and found not only the definition but numerous other sites.

The acronym website will also come in handy in the future, I'm sure.
