I am in need of some sort of a device to create pressure on a clutch. This is for an automotive racing application. When there is 0 psi, the clutch is disengaged, when there is 225 psi, the clutch is locked. The desired operating range is all the way from 0-225

Ideally, i would like to use something electronic with a dial (potentiometer) we can turn to change the pressure. if there is something simple that is mechanical which would require some pumping or screwing action that would also work. there is currently no return line.

any advice is greatly appreciated!

Anti-Lock Brake systems must use a pressure control device that limits brake engagement pressure from a feedback from rotation of the wheels.

Maybe that system could be modified to control clutch pressure electronically?

i was really just hoping for some simple standalone device i could buy, rather than have to design. Whether it was a simple mechanical device or an electronic setup, even something like a bottle jack that i could pump up and release pressure with, is there any small ones that you can think of?

thanks alot for your help

Do a search for

"manual pumps hydraulic"

on Google search engine and you will see a variety of available offerings.

Star looks like a good one.

ok i just found the perfect pump, i am going to use a toyota electric power steering pump. Any idea what terms to do a google search on for a good regulator? If i could find an electronically controlled 0-225psi regulator with return line i would be in business :)

thanks for your help

I would try "Proportional Relief Valve"

The problem might be getting one that low pressure since most hydraulics operates at 1,000 PSI+

yeah thats exactly the problem i am running into, cant find anything with a low enough pressure :(

I would check with some of the people that supply parts for the bouncy show cars. They carry all sorts of valves and controls along with pumps.

thanks for the info hydromech... to be honest, i am not sure how this could be used?

The setup has a 3/8" NPT output from the pump to a 1/2" NPT inlet to the clutchpack. There is a reservoir for the fluid to feed the pump and return to.

How can this valve be plumbed in? Thanks for all your help

If you are looking for a low pressure proportional control device I would look at Mico brake manufacturer. They do lots with low pressure and relatively good resolution
