Thank you for your time. I need to know the basics of C1075-C1095 spring steel when used as a cantilever spring. Approximate dimensions are 18" long x 14" wide and .062-.125 thick.
Specific questions:
What is the maximum bend before the spring will take a permanent set? I've been using 10 inch radius since high carbon metal strips ship in rolls with a 10 inch inside radius without setting. More specifically, what is the formula? I assume thickness matters and need to determine if it is better to go with a thinner but wider strip of spring steel when possible.
Also, will the .062 have a longer life than the .125 for the same bend? Is there a way to calculate the approx. life span?
Variables include width, thickness, amount of Carbon, and total bend per unit of length (again, been using a 10 inch radius).
