I have a product with a manual wheel for height adjustment. My customer wants this to be motorized.

My existing product has a wheel to adjust my load.
The current speed is manual ~ 60rpm.
The torque is 1.6Nm (see attached).
The motorized speed should be about 60 – 600 rpm (this is flexible).
The acceleration is not critical.
The load must travel in both directions.
The total number of revolutions in one direction is 90. (~18”).
The max step size is 0.35% or 0.3125 revolutions (.0625”).

Can I use a motor direct or do I need a gear assembly?
Should I use DC or Servo?
Do the drive come with RS232 interface?

Thanks!
Derek

What is going to control the height? Is it going to be an operator jogging it or some type of position feedback?

If this is just for ergonomics like an adjustable height sewing table I would keep the rpm at 60 and use a little Brother gear motor.

If this has feedback but is not high speed I would use a little Animatics servo with gearhead. These are nice little inexpensive packages with the controls on the motor and an RS232 interface. If you need to do a lot of communicating they are limited.

Thanks! I think these options are over kill. I realize the speed may be to fast. I only need ~60rmp. The step angle can be 7.5 (or better). I can set a limit at the factory so I can use a stepper I think.

Jameco has a bunch but they show the torgue but not the speed. They don't show speed for steppers (only torque). How do I select a motor?

Jameco has a drive but requires a external heatsink. I would hoping to find a turn key solution. Ideally the drive would have a step up/down and move up/down AND a RS232.
