Hi all.

I am trying to resolve a tensioning problem at my work with roller chains.
However, all sorts of automatic spring loaded, floating, ring tensioners are not an option because there isn't plenty of room to work with.

Are there any other ingenious ways of tensioning a roller chain without any of the above mentioned tensioning devices?

Thanks.

Recommended for you

- Make some part of the support structure a little compliant. Adjust its spring rate to provide tensioning and takeup.

- Use undersize (short pitch) chain molded of rubber.

- Use regular chain, but use a couple hundred extra feet of it, and let the weight of that hanging loop tension the remainder of the system.

- Use a shorter hanging loop, a snatch block with a sprocket, and a hanging weight.

The snap-idle recommendation is a good one. The simple ideas are the best.
