I have a spline that needs a go composite spline plug gage made for it. Are there formulas to calculate the gage dimensions out there somewhere?

Blinddeafmute101, What is the standard for the spline you need to measure? Different standards will call out different spline tolerances as well as gage tolerances. One of the standards we manufacture to is ANSI B92.1-1970. There are gage manufacturing tolerances in that spec.. Gary

Blinddeafmute101 :

The SAE spline system uses the same "basic" tooth thickness for all classes. This is pi/pitch/2. A plug gage checks space width, ans is made so that, when worn to usefull life, would be size to size in a minimum internal spline.

The detail tolerances are in ANSI B92.1-1970, but you don't really need them unless you are inspecting gages. Ordering to that spec will get you what you need.

Quick Spline involute spline software is great for both spline and spline gage dimensions. You can visit for more info and a free downloadable evaluation version of the software.
