As an engineer with an AB Chance installer, use a ratio of 1:10 torque to load (ie. 10,000 ft-lbs of torque equates to an ultimate capacity of 100 kips tension or compression, working load is half of ultimate so 50 kip for design). Typically design loads for limited access areas are 25 kip design. Areas where a piece of equipment can get in, like a skid loader, you can achieve a design load of 50 kip. If more capacity is required you can nest more than one pier together, but the piers have to be separated by three times the largest helix diameter.
