Hi,

Whats the use of calculating limits of reinforcement as given by UG-40?
In example problem 2 of L7.2 (App L) limits are 11.5in,1.625in . But nowhere in calculation its used. Reinforcement limit can be increased if area provided is not sufficient as its given in the problem? So whats the need of calculating the limits?

lingeshgdvg, if you examine the UG-37 equations for A1 & A2 you will see the UG-40 limits are implicit in these calculations. In that sense, perhaps it is not necessary to calculate them separately in many cases.

However, if you have a situation where the limits may need to be restricted, as in multiple openings (UG-42) or perhaps near a flange (UG-40), or perhaps a forged neck (UG-40) you first need to know the UG-40 limits to decide if the limits must be restricted.

It is a useful skill.

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand
