Hello:

I am looking to spec a threaded insert of similar structure to "Heli-Coil" inserts.

-The size is 1/4-20 and would be mated to an aluminum (6061-T6) adaptor plate which will attach an Antenna to an aircraft.
-The inserts may be glued, epoxied or mechanically attached to the adapter plate.
-The antenna has 6 screws.
-I am looking for something NAS/MS compatible and that will not have problems getting FAR certification.

Any advice or general direction is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I'm going to dig this one back up, since I have a question that is somewhat applicable.

Does anyone have experience with the floating Keenserts (or if there are other floating key locked inserts out there) in an aircraft application? I have a current design that uses a lot of floating nut plates, and I was thinking about trying to replace them with floating Keenserts. I have to admit I'm a little nervous, because there doesn't seem to be a standard for them, but I would be interested in hearing in experiences with them, none the less.

Thanks.

RayBen,

The difference between a floating nutplate and a floating keensert is that the typical nutplate can be installed in (or on)a much thinner base material. The benefit of the keensert is that it can be installed in a blind end hole.

Another secondary benefit of the nutplate is that it is easier to replace if it becomes damaged or the locking feature wears out.

Good luck.
