need reference book for underground distribution

Hi all,

what i'm looking for is a guide/book/standard that explains every step of the design of an underground distribution line. Cable pulling techniques, number of manholes, choosing the right conductor etc....i'm most interested in the civil/mechanic part of the work.

Lineman and Cableman's Handbook by Thomas Shoemaker and James E. Mack

Also try the Electrical Distrubution Engineering, Chapter 6 Mechanical design: underground by Anthony J. Pansini. A McGarw Hill book 1983. He has a later version that may also have this Chaper. The chapter has reinforcing specifications, sample design problems, lots of tables and lots of good technical information for civil and mechanical designs. I found this book to be very helpful.

This Book also has overhead Mechical too.

It is a very good little electrical distribution cook book small but helpful.

Also check out the Nation Electric Safety Code. It covers underground and overhead. This is not the same as the National Electric Code book.

oops the info was for design not for construction practices. The Okonite cable company has a free Bulletin EHB-88 or later version that has information for people in the field such as cable pulling maximum pulling tensions on page 38. And the Nation Electric Safety Code has other info .

I don't know of any book with recommended manhole spacing. I would ask a manhole manufacture or cable representative for that info. Or just post a question asking for manhole spacing on this formum,
