Need Reference for Conveyor Design

Hello All-

I am a relatively young engineer looking for some conveyor design help. I am currently working on determining a way to convert a cable supported conveyor to a non-cable supported design.

I have been trying to find some kind of reference on conveyor design specifications with applicable design loads and ideally some examples.

Is there anything out there like this? Please help. Thanks.

Check out "Belt Conveyors for Bulk Materials" for information on calculating belt tensions, idler spacing, etc. What size conveyor is this? Horsepower? Spans?

Thanks the conveyor is already in place so I am just planning on using the same idler spacings, etc. I am really looking for more of a design reference geared towards any unique structural considerations of conveyors.

Spans on the conveyors are 30'. This conveyor is a cable supported conveyor. Basically there is a large tower that houses the cables at the top. It attaches a at four points on the conveyor plus a fifth point for the winch.

On a basic level, conveyors will have lateral loads due to the unbalanced belt tensions at the drive pulley. Depending on your pulley arrangements, you will have local stresses that need to be evaluated. The type of take-up being used will have an effect on structural design. Going to typical conveyor bents may seem simple enough, but remember to check your truss connections for the new forces resulting from different support locations. Just some things to think about.
