I'm building a device which includes a flywheel which is connected to a drive shaft with a lobe on it (just to keep the description simple). The lobe, at BDC, will be creating compression pressure on a plunging pin in a die which needs to be at least 1/2 ton, for every stroke of the lobe.

I have dimension constraints which are about 10"W x 10"D x 20"H, and unfortunately the stored energy in a fast moving flywheel isn't applicable (thanks again Don). Therefore I need a slow moving, high torque electric motor not more than 5" H x 10"W to fit in the bottom compartment of the unit.

I haven't calculated the needed torque just yet, but I would appreciate any suggestions of suppliers that have motors for what I need. If I know of suppliers that have motors that provide the maximum torque available, I'll know the limits and can work backwards from that known maximum.

Many thanks beforehand!
Bret

I forgot to mention the motor must run on 120v A/C household current.

Sounds like what you need is a motor with a gearbox. They're readily available. Where are you located? There's little point in me posting a list of European suppliers in you are in South America.

I agree with ScottyUK, AC motor and a gear box. A 56C frame motor with a right angle worm gearbox may fit.

Thanks Scotty and sreid. I'm in Miami, Florida USA.

I got a piece of info. from a web search that indicates I may be needing a motor with 20lbs or torque, but I'm not counting on that spec. yet. It would still be good to know what the max possible is and a good supplier.
