Hello,

I am looking for information on marine gas turbines. Where can I find information or if there is a company or individual that has training classes or is expert in this field.

One place to start is with CIMAC at I assume you have tried approaching the various manufacturers but CIMAC is a good starting point for all current and impending developments.

"Modern Marine Engineer's Manual", Volume I, Third Edition published by Cornell Maritime Press is a good source of information on gas turbines for marine application. "Marine Gas Turbines" published by John Wiley and Sons is another source.

The marine gas turbine is the exact same turbine as the land base. I have seen idustrial gas turbines on Chevron takers and areo's on fast attack ships and crusers. So if you find gas turbine information on the make and model you are intrested in it will be valid.

The Industrial deriv. marine gas turbine made quite a splash in Australia in the 70's and early 80's and in fact the Australian shipping companies at the time were forerunners in their use. (Previous merchant ships like the fast Euroliners used the less efficient aero. deriv). There were a few different configurations but all were characterised by having extensive waste heat recovery for economy. The direct drive versions were also unique as they had a free 2nd stage turbine driving a geared down CPP, leaving the 1st stage to drive the compressor. This was better suited to match the propeller drive requirements. Also fuel supply was cheap, they used Bass Strait crude with minimal pre-treatment (only waterwashing and centrifuging from memory) Alas all those ships were re-engined with the much more efficient marine diesel engine. I must check those references in the other replies but assume the aero deriv. version for "Grey funnel line" (Navy) use is the type in use now.

If you are interested in history I may still have some old magazine articles I can send or E-mail.

My name is SSG King, and I'am a instructor for helicopter mechanics. My quest is to find a up todate training video for the basic operation of a gas turbine engine with a running time of 15 min or less. Do you have such a thing or know were might can get one?
P.S IF THEW VIDEO WAS ON THE LYCOMBING ENGINE IT WOULD BE BETTER

Thank you.
