Hi All,

Not an engineering question so please feel free to flame away or recommend a more appropriate forum!
I'm trying to source some 3/8" SCH80 seamless pipe in 347SS here in Australia but cannot find any local suppliers that carry stock or are even willing to bring some in.
I need to source 24 x 1,800mm lengths.
Can any Aussies chime in where I might be able to find some locally, or anyone recommend somewhere in the USA/Europe who I could go to for pricing?
Cheers.

Hi Kenny,

As per my initial post I need to source 3/8" (0.375") SCH80.
I've found some in the USA, but if you can offer alternate supply I'm happy to look at it.
Cheers.

You might want to try Haynes international. They mainly specialized in special metals. I am pretty sure they make your size pipe. Wish I could help you but we are not making that size seamless yet.

Tuckabag,

If the above recommendations do not work, contact McMaster-Carr Supply Company. If it's not in their catalog, they have a department that specializes in tracking down what you want. They say they will send you a quote within 24 hours. I've never used this service, but a guy I work with from time to time told me his son works in this department.

Good luck,
Latexman

Tuckabag,

If you don't mind me asking what is the application you are using the pipe for.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give them a go.
The application is for manufacture of sample probes for a high pressure regen dryer on an LNG project. Process temps cycle from +40 to +343deg C during the regen cycle, I believe that this is why the end client is calling for 347SS construction.
Thanks for your help!

Please let us know how it turns out finding this.

Good luck,
Latexman

Tuckabag,
Why not get on to someone like Atlas Specialty Metals and let them do all the legwork for you ?.
They can chase it up all over the world and when they locate the last available pieces in Upper Wherethehellamistan the client will then decide whether the cost is justified,
Cheers,
Kiwi

Hi Kiwi,
We had spoken to all the usual suppliers of bar here in Oz, including Atlas. No one wanted to do the leg work and chase it up unless we were talking mill run qtys........
Thanks for the advice though!
Will let you know how we go with the companies mentioned above.
Cheers.

Tuckabag,
You could try the Stuart Shale Oil Project in Gladstone (think it was mothballed so no idea who took it over) but they had huge stocks of high temp pipe (347)and you could probably pick it up for next to nothing.
Cheers,
Kiwi

Thanks Kiwi, I'll do some hunting around.
Cheers.

OK, just to close this out, I didn't hear back from Haynes. I did however get a response from one local supplier (MRC SPF) who could source from the USA and also from Cornes Philips in Singapore who could also source 347SS pipe for me.
In the end however the client decided that they didn't need 347SS after all and scope of supply is now good ol' 316SS.
Thanks for your help all!
