Hello,

Is it possible to manufacture (or buy) a liquid that has negative coefficient of thermal expansion (expands while cooled) ?

Thanks,
Darek

Water ( from 4 C to 0C) and after/ below 0C it definitely expands....

You need to give a bit more about what sort of temperature range you're looking at and what sort of expansion you want.

From this small piece It looks like it's a pretty limited set of substances...

Also why?

I am interested to have a "container" with water mixed with this negative thermal expansion liquid (in right proportions) to obtain a mix that has 0 thermal expansion coefficient. I would like to have it in "room temperature / conditions".

Thanks

So for a limited range (+/- a few C?) near RT you want zero CTE?
And you are making the container out of something with zero CTE also? (caution, Invar rusts)
You are discovering why people do this with expansion tanks, check valves and back pressure regulators.
There is no safe, simple, stable, water based ZCTE solution.

Think the two substances will be on the same shelf... [pipe]

Hello DarekN!

When we engineers have a problem, and then find a possible solution, and after research the solution does not work, we have to get back to start.

So what is your real problem?
